Reaching Amalfi from Naples, may not exactly be an easy task.

But don't fear and don't let it get you down, thanks to a few small tricks and a little patience, even this feat will turn out to be a piece of cake.

In this article I will point out all the ways I know of to get from Naples to Amalfi, either by public transportation or by private vehicle.

All the ways to get to Amalfi from Naples

I will show you, therefore, the various possibilities you have for reaching Amalfi from Naples.

I will start from public transportation, which certainly are the cheapest options, but will require more time and patience to reach your finite destination, to slightly more expensive but definitely more comfortable proposals.

Public transportation is suitable for those who travel light, have a lot of adaptability and no schedule . Next, other private transportation proposals that are higher priced but allow you to optimize your time more, perhaps even making a few scenic stops along the way or allowing you to indulge in the view without worrying about anything, thanks to a private tour from Naples to Amalfi.

Reaching Amalfi by public transportation.

Please be advised that there is no public transportation that stops directly from Naples to Amalfi, so if you choose this option you should keep in mind that you will have to split your trip in stages, with all the inconvenience that involves.
Public transportation may be more convenient if you are traveling solo and have a few pieces of luggage, but for a family consisting of 4 people and an average of 1 piece of luggage each surely a private transfer will be cheaper, faster and more relaxing.

Let's look at the various options together:

How to reach Amalfi from Naples by Bus

Buses to Amalfi leave from Naples Airport and Naples Station.
Again, there will not be a bus that goes direct from Naples to Amalfi but you will have to make several changes along the way.

From the Airport you can take a bus that goes directly to Sorrento station and then take another bus to Amalfi , or take a bus to Naples station and from there take the circumvesuviana to Sorrento and then from Sorrento take the bus to Amalfi.

On the other hand, if you arrive at Naples Station, you can take a bus to always arrive at Sorrento Station. The ticket costs about 5 euros and the bus takes about an hour and a half.
Pay attention to baggage policies and check ticket schedules carefully since you will have to make many connections before arriving in Amalfi not to mention possible delays that are unfortunately the order of the day when it comes to public transportation in Campania.

This alternative is recommended for dynamic travelers with little luggage and who are not constrained by arrival times, as the trip can take up to 10 hours between delays and bus changes.

How to reach Amalfi from Naples by train

The first inconvenience to know is that there is no train station on the Amalfi Coast.
Fortunately, however, the nearby town of Sorrento has a train station. So from Naples you can take the Circumvesuviana until you reach the terminus in Sorrento.
The Circumvesuviana ticket can be purchased directly at the station either at the ticket office or at the ticket machine. For about €5 per person one way you will reach Sorrento in about 1h 30m

Once you arrive at the station in Sorrento, then you have to exit the station and head to the bus station, here you can take one of the Sita buses, which run to Amalfi. The ticket costs about 5 euros. Here you will find a line of people waiting for the bus.

Remember: in this case it is not possible to buy the ticket on board but must be done before entering the bus. You can buy tickets directly at the Sorrento station, at the ticket office, or at a Tabacchi that displays the SITA sign at the door.
Also keep in mind that the ticket must always be obliterated in order to avoid incurring fines, even very large ones!

Sita buses cover the entire territory of the Amalfi Coast, so it will not be difficult to find a stop that is close enough to your accommodation. The only downside is that, during the summer, they can be overcrowded and so you might risk going the whole way standing; or even not being able to get on the bus and having to wait for the next one.

here you can find the schedule Circumvesuviana

How to reach Amalfi from Naples by ferry

There is no direct ferry from Naples to Amalfi but you will have to make several stops along the way.
The ferry trip can take from 3 to 5 hours depending on what connections you can find.
Prices to get to Amalfi range from €50 to €100 per person.
Personally, I do not recommend it both because of the particularly inconvenient timings and the need (in most cases) for long stretches then from the port to the center with luggage in tow.
